To be the best me that I can be
High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation. - DfE
At Crockerne, we believe it is important for young children to be inspired by and informed about the different careers or hobbies available to them in later life. In our school, there could be the next best chef, fashion designer or engineer and it is our duty and passion to empower our children to believe that.
Through our school's teaching of D&T, we give our children the opportunity to explore their own creativity and individuality. They learn about the process of designing, making and evaluating products and become more confident and thoughtful in each of these aspects as they progress through school.
Design and Technology is the focus of several of our REAL projects throughout the school. We teach all areas of D&T as set out in the National Curriculum. Due to the nature of our REAL project approach to the curriculum, our children have many opportunities to learn the D&T with a real purpose and audience.
Nursery and Reception have lots of opportunity to explore and develop their D&T skills through continuous provision, enabling them to be creative in a safe, fun environment, both indoors and outside. They explore this through the areas in the Early Years Foundation Stage rather than the National Curriculum.
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
