"Let your light shine" Matthew 5:16
This term our Christian Values are:
Respect Friendship Perseverance
A high quality religious education (RE) curriculum is essential to meet the statutory requirement for all maintained schools to teach a broad and balanced curriculum.
Although the teaching of Christianity is at the heart of RE in Church of England School, rooted in the person and work of Jesus Christ, there is a clear expectation that church schools encourage learning about other religions and world views fostering respect for them.
At Crockerne Church of England Primary School, in accordance to the locally agreed syllabus and with guidance from The Diocese of Bath and Wells, we use the Understanding Christianity resource to delivery the teaching of Christianity and Awareness-Mystery-Value to teach other world religions and views.
The right of withdrawal from RE:
At Crockerne Church of England Primary school we wish to be an inclusive community but recognise that parents, of course, have the legal right to withdraw their children religious education on the grounds of conscience. However, the right of withdrawal does not extend to other areas of the curriculum when, as may happen on occasion, spontaneous questions on religious matters are raised by pupils or there are issues related to religion that arise in other subjects such as history or citizenship.
We would ask any parent considering this to contact the class teacher or head teacher to discuss any concerns or anxieties about the policy, provision and practice of religious education at our school.
